Beware of scammers posing as SoFi
Throughout the financial industry, there has been an increase in fraudulent and charlatan activity, and SoFi has not been spared. With this in mind, we wanted to take a moment to remind you Where SoFi works, how to recognize scams, and where to report suspicious activity. At SoFi, we take your security seriously and we’re here to help keep you and your money safe.
Where SoFi works
Currently, SoFi’s personal loan, home loan, and student loan products, as well as SoFi Checking & Savings, credit cards, and carryover are available in the U.S. only. SoFi offers its investment platform in the USA and Hong Kong.
Anything claiming to offer SoFi products outside of these geographic locations is not legitimate. This includes anyone pretending to be “SoFi India,” “SoFi China,” or anywhere else outside of the US and Hong Kong.
How to recognize scams
As a general rule, SoFi will never contact you unless you contact us first. To assist with your account, our customer service team may ask for your email address, full name, and date of birth for verification. but, We will never ask you for your password, one-time password (OTP), or Social Security number. Always be careful when receiving unexpected messages or clicking on unknown links. Before taking any action, check the sender and make sure the communication is legitimate.
Here are some tips on how to spot a scam:
Look and feel
• Double check the SoFi logo — the circles should be facing up and to the right! We are staying consistent with the blue colors of our SoFi brand.
• On social media, look for the blue verification mark and make sure the username is “SoFi”. Anything that includes additional numbers or words like “bonus,” “gift,” “lottery,” or “agent” is a fraudulent account.
• Does the interface look familiar? SoFi’s official mobile app can only be found at Apple Store and Google Play Store. Please refer to these links to get a visual of what our official SoFi app looks like and compare.
• We currently operate only in US dollars and Hong Kong dollars. Any website or app with an interface in terms of ₹ Rupee, ¥ RMB, or other currencies claiming to be SoFi is not legitimate.
Contact details and messages
• Check URL — The site link must start with only sofi.com or sofi.hk
• The same applies to contact information – legitimate representatives of SoFi will have an email address ending in @sofi.com or @sofi.org.
• As much as our CEO Anthony Noto loves our members, he has never sent you a text or private message on social media. His only official account on social media is @Anthony Noto On Twitter.
• If you win a giveaway that you forget you entered, SoFi will never send you a private message on social media and ask you to provide your account login information.
• While our customer service team can be reached in a number of ways (phone, email, live chat, social media), and SoFi Hong Kong also uses WhatsApp, please double check the phone numbers and email addresses associated with the message. These must match our official contact information:
◦ SoFi USA contact details
◦ SoFi Hong Kong contact details
