Back to Texas – extended again
By hope
In a few weeks, the girls and I will be traveling to Texas for Thanksgiving. The original plan was to drive there and back together. While I was in Texas last month, that changed.
My father needs more help arranging some things at home. We dealt with a lot of clutter, rearranged rooms and purged items this last time. However, there are still piles and piles of papers and boxes that have not been opened since she moved there over 10 years ago.
While I was there, we decided that the girls would come back after Thanksgiving and I would stay for some extra time, maybe 2-3 weeks. During that time, I’ll process the piles of paperwork and see if we can get some sort of process to make sure bills don’t fall through the cracks.
Financial implications
We are boarding 3 of the 4 dogs (including Jake who currently lives with Princess) for this trip. My dog Addie will go with us. It usually travels with me especially when I’m car camping along the way. Sheltering dogs will cost $25 per day per dog. My father has agreed to cover this cost for the additional time I will be gone.
After we confirmed with the girls that they were good for the return trip, my father booked return flights for them. To be honest, I think they were a little relieved to get out of the return trip. And I love solo road trips, so it’s a win-win.
In the end, I think this is a good plan. And it doesn’t cost me any more money than the original plan. This actually saves me some money because I won’t need to pay for a hotel on the trip home. (I love car camping.) I will save up on groceries for two to three weeks because my dad provides food for me while I’m there.
