go to texas
The decision has been made and plans have been made. I will be heading to Texas in two weeks for an open house with my parents.
I wrote about a locomotive I was dying to go on. I decided to listen to it. I’m going to drive there with Eddie in a few weeks.
I’m not sure exactly when we’ll be back, but I’ll be back by mid-October because the princess is having her wisdom teeth extracted and I’ll be staying with her while she recovers.
My son is so happy, my sister is excited, my dad is excited too, and I think they all have a list of things they’d like me to do while I’m there, in addition to spending time with them.
But my first goal is to see what I can do to help my dad day-to-day with taking care of my mom while also focusing on taking care of him. My siblings are doing a great job supporting him. He seems to respond differently to me. (We’ve always been very, very close.) His health has definitely suffered in the last couple of years. With cancer treatment, emergency gallbladder removal, and ongoing undiagnosed pain, we all think he needs some extra support. So I can go and stay and help.
Work and travel
I am so grateful that I can make this trip and be there when I need to be. The costs will be minimal. Addie and I will be car camping on the way there and back (or staying with friends and family along the way). So we will just be saving on gas.
My boss has already been informed and he is 100% supportive of me working from wherever I want. This is one of the main factors in my choice to stay as a contractor at this stage. I have complete freedom to travel, move and live anywhere without affecting corporate taxes etc.
I also mentioned some of the big decisions that have been made over the past two weeks. This trip will also help me clarify some of those decisions. I will talk about that in more detail in the coming weeks or months…
