Summer projects are complete.
We have completed the checklist created in the spring summer yard projects. I am so happy!
The culmination of the work was last week when we water-washed the roof (we borrowed a water-washer from my uncle) and sealed the roof. The supplies cost $187. The labor cost was ____ (I’m still waiting for my daughter’s boyfriend to send me his hours). But it looks pretty good…see for yourself!
As I walked around the property, I felt so grateful for everything we had accomplished. The end result is a garden that:
- Full of edible plants…blueberries, salad ingredients, herbs, etc.
- Now, less than half of the lawn area needs regular maintenance. We have been able to reduce the lawn area by about half.
- The problem of flooding caused by the enlarged drainage channel has been addressed.
- The path from my parking lot to the back deck was leveled and landscaped which greatly reduced the tripping hazards (especially for me) and the mud the dogs would leave in the house.
- Huge landscaped shade bed with large weed barrier.
The final outlay was $56, which was 10 bags of mulch, 4 bags of white marble rocks, and some landscape stakes.
What do you think of the results? It was a lot of hard work, lots and lots of cardboard (with permission) collected from my part-time job to use as weed barrier, pallets from a friend’s job, and constantly checking Facebook Marketplace for supplies for free or cheap.
But I’m happy and proud of myself! And grateful. I hope the cold weather comes quickly so I can enjoy my outdoor living space.
