Extended warranty on my hearing aids?

Written by Hope

I have been using headphones for 3 years this month. And I just received notification that the comprehensive warranty will expire at the end of the month with an offer to renew the warranty.

In the past, I have always declined extended warranty offers. I don’t know how much it would cost to extend this. But I’m going to find out.

I’ve had to use the warranty twice now. The first time was because the earbuds randomly stopped working, so I bought a new pair. Then two weeks ago, they sent the left earbud in for repair because the battery died several hours before the end of the day before the right one.

Do you know how embarrassed I feel when I lose my hearing in only one ear? I’ve been in a miserable state all week because of it. (Another reason is that I don’t leave my house very often and I rarely leave it if I have to interact with anyone.)

Anyway, I made an appointment in mid-July to have my hearing checked again. My hearing has gotten noticeably worse, and my kids and I can definitely tell. Even with hearing aids, I have trouble hearing people face to face. Yes, even when we are the only people in the room and there is no background noise. It is really bad.

The good thing about my hearing aids is that they’re Bluetooth, so they work well with my phone and work gear. The kids and I are exploring other assistive devices we can add to the house to help. We’re looking at things like doorbells that turn on lights (although my dogs work great as doorbells and alarms). We’re also exploring all the accessibility options on my iPhone. We’re considering water sensors in the bathrooms because I can’t hear running water and dripping.

We’re not rushing into anything, but we’re preparing for the time when I’ll truly be living on my own. (The beauty still here was truly a blessing).

In short, on July 12th I will find out how much it will cost to extend my warranty and will be updated on my hearing. I will keep you updated. I would love to know your opinions on an extended warranty for something that is critical to not only my quality of life and my ability to succeed at work… my hearing aids.
