Spaghetti sauce is inexpensive

It’s possible to budget $150 per month (two adults in California) for food without resorting to a food stamp.

. I generally do this by alternating between 3 or 4 different meals that also act as common ingredients in each other, and this completely avoids leftovers. (See Chapter Five of the book for the general idea.) For example, bean sauce can be used in tortillas as well.

Sorry, I have biases against the type of food that coupons buy. If the food is so good, why does it need coupons to draw attention to it?


  • I can do everything in the pressure cooker, from soaking beans to cooking them to making sauce.

  • Spices: I recommend paprika, oregano, thyme, and basil.
  • Things to take into account.
  • Make sure the onions are brown, not just translucent. This affects how well it stores and tastes.

Place a thin layer of flour on the sauce once it is cooked and stir to thicken the sauce.

You can chop the chili pepper and throw it away if you want it to be extra spicy. If you don’t throw it all away and cut it up later for whoever wants it.


Adjust the proportions of ingredients to taste. Go easy on the sherry there
