Debt Managements

There is no self-control – you have to do something different

I failed last month. And I’ve failed more this month. I was very close to paying off my Amazon CC. And then I reached my limit again. I have to do something different.

I downgraded my Amazon CC account to $750 last month and paid off half the amount. Now it’s back to $1,450. I debated the wisdom of prioritizing this card, knowing that I tend to use it if there is an available balance.

As a result, I changed CC’s priority order for paying things off. And I moved my Wander card to the top of the list. I destroyed that card, can’t use it for Apple Pay, and it’s not linked to any of my recurring bills. There is absolutely no way I can increase the balance any further. So when it’s paid off, it’s gone.

what should be done?

I’ve been trying to figure out what to do about it Sam’s Club CC and Amazon CC. My Sams card is paid off, and I don’t tend to use it much. Combined with the benefits of cheap gas when I’m near a club, free delivery on Sam’s Club purchases with my Plus membership, and that the kids use the membership too, I plan to keep this card open. But be very careful not to use it or pay it off every month. Both really.

But my Amazon CC is…pretty amazing. Those emotional rolls through the app. Desire for handy shopping. That’s a lot. I was really proud of myself when I ditched Prime a couple of years ago. It definitely held me back a bit. But after finding out about free shipping on orders over $35…well, the problem still exists. And having my Amazon CC doubles that.

So I’m canceling my Amazon CC account this week. I will make it as difficult as possible to shop there. And to be honest, it’s not like I need anything I can’t get locally.

Sidenote: I think this move will hurt my credit score since this is my second oldest card. But that’s okay, I don’t really need or want any more credit at this point. 🙂
