Launching now: SoFi + Zelle®
We’ve read your posts and comments, and we know that Zelle® is one of the most requested features in the SoFi app. We’re excited to share that starting today, we’re rolling out Zelle® with SoFi Checking & Savings members.
To ensure we’re building a great money transfer experience, we’ll be rolling out this feature to members over the coming weeks, meaning some members will be able to access it early in the day, while others will find it in their app over the coming weeks. .
We will prioritize members who have made at least one transfer with SoFi using the standalone Zelle® app because we expect they will get an immediate benefit from this feature. From here, we will also prioritize members who have set up direct deposit before rolling out the feature more broadly.
Once the feature is available to you, you will receive an email and in-app notification with details on how to sign up. Please note that agents cannot change member eligibility or feature availability sooner.

Zelle® is a fast, secure and easy way to send and receive money with friends, family and others you trust, even if they bank outside of SoFi. All you need is the recipient’s email address or US mobile phone number and the money will be sent directly from your account to their account in minutes. Account numbers are not shared.
How should I use Zelle®?
You can send, request or receive money using Zelle®. To get started, log into the SoFi app or on the SoFi website, select Zelle® in the Banking tab, enter your email address or US mobile phone number to receive a one-time verification code to enter, and you’re ready to start sending and receiving with Zelle® .
To send money using Zelle®, simply select someone from your mobile device contacts (or add a trusted recipient’s email address or U.S. mobile phone number), add the amount you’d like to send and an optional note, review it, and tap “ send”. Your recipient will receive an email or text message notification via the method they used to register with Zelle®. Funds are available to your recipient in minutes if they are already registered with Zelle®.
To request money using Zelle®, select Request, select the person you want to request money from, enter the amount you want, include an optional note, review and press Request. If the person you are requesting funds from is not yet registered with Zelle®, you must use their email address to request funds. If the person has registered their mobile phone number in the United States, you can submit the request using their mobile phone number.
To receive money, simply share your registered email address or US mobile phone number with a friend and ask them to send you money using Zelle®. If you have already registered with Zelle®, you do not need to take any further action. The funds will be sent directly to your SoFi account, usually within minutes.
If someone sends you money using Zelle® and you’re not yet signed up for Zelle®, follow these steps:
a. Click the link in the push notification you received via email or text message.
B. Select Sophie.
C. Follow the instructions on the page to register and receive your payment. Pay attention to the US email address or mobile number where you received your payment notification – you must register with Zelle® with your US email address or mobile number to ensure you get your money.
Who can I send money to using Zelle®?
Zelle® is a great way to send money to family, friends, and people you know like your personal trainer, babysitter, or neighbors.1
Since money is sent directly from your SoFi account to someone else’s bank account within 2 minutes, Zelle® should only be used to send money to friends, family, and other people you trust.
If you do not know the person or are not sure you will get what you paid for (for example, items purchased from an online auction or auction site), you should not use Zelle®. These transactions are potentially high risk (just like sending cash to someone you don’t know is high risk).
Neither SoFi nor Zelle® provides Purchase Protection for payments made with Zelle® – for example, if you do not receive the item you paid for or the item is not as described or as you expected.
Can I pay a small business with Zelle®?
Some small businesses can take payments using Zelle®.1 Ask your favorite small business if they accept payments using Zelle®. If they do, you can pay them directly from the SoFi app or SoFi website using only their email address or US mobile number.
Neither SoFi or Zelle® offer purchase protection for payments made with Zelle®, so you should only send money to people (and small businesses) you trust. Also, always make sure to use the correct email address or US mobile phone number when sending money.
Can I use Zelle® internationally?
In order to use Zelle®, the bank or credit union accounts of the sender and recipient must be located in the United States
Can I cancel the payment?
You can only cancel a payment if the person you sent money to is not yet registered with Zelle®. To check if a payment is still pending because the recipient hasn’t registered yet, you can go to your activity page, choose the payment you want to cancel, and then select “Cancel this payment.” If you do not find this option available, please contact our customer support team at 1(855)-456-7634 for assistance in canceling a pending payment.
If the person you sent money to is already registered with Zelle®, the money will be sent directly to their bank account and cannot be cancelled. That’s why it’s important to only send money to people you trust, and to always make sure you use the correct email address or US mobile phone number when sending money.
If you send money to the wrong person, please immediately contact our customer support team at 1(855)-456-7634. Neither SoFi nor Zelle® provides purchase protection for payments made with Zelle®.
Are there any fees for sending money using Zelle®?
No, SoFi does not charge a fee to use Zelle® in the SoFi app or on the SoFi website. However, your carrier’s message and data rates may apply.
Are there any limits to sending and receiving money with Zelle®?
The amount of money you can send, as well as how often, is determined by each participating financial institution. SoFi transmission limits are detailed in the Zelle® Network Standard Terms
At SoFi, there are no limits to the amount of money you can make with Zelle®. However, remember that the person sending you money will likely have limits set by their financial institution on the amount of money they can send you.
What if I want to send money to someone whose bank or credit union doesn’t offer Zelle®?
You can find a complete list of banks and credit unions that partner directly with Zelle® here.
If your recipient’s bank or credit union isn’t on the list, don’t worry! The list of participating financial institutions is always growing, and your recipient can still use Zelle® by downloading the Zelle® app for Android and iOS.
To register using the Zelle® app, the recipient will enter their basic contact information, US email address or mobile phone number, and a Visa® or Mastercard® debit card with a US-based account (not including US territories). Zelle® does not accept debit cards linked to international deposit accounts or any credit cards.
Zelle® should only be used to send money to friends, family, and others you know and trust. We recommend that you do not use Zelle® to send money to people you do not know or have met. Neither SoFi nor Zelle® provides purchase protection for payments made with Zelle®. For example, if you do not receive the item you paid for or the item is not as described or as you expected, you may not be able to receive a refund once it has been sent.
A US checking or savings account is required to use Zelle®. Transactions between registered users usually occur within minutes. Eligibility criteria apply. Dollar and frequency limits apply.
