Room cleaning service is good

from Minimum/financial independence Extreme Perspective Regular books on good housekeeping (in case you need to learn that from a book ) just won’t cut it. In fact, when it comes to financial independence, information aimed at “everyday people” is often useless

. Hence, one must look elsewhere. I get my inspiration, not from traditional money management books, but from books about system theory, biology, primitive (Neolithic) life, war, philosophy, expeditions, … (for investments, I use whatever the professionals use) .

I still enjoy talking to the rep when financial services companies call me trying to sell me their various asset allocation plans as if they’ve somehow discovered the holy grail. One of these books is

Well kept boats

By Zora Aiken. On board, water, fuel (for cooking) and storage are at a premium. Therefore, their use must be improved. On the ground these cost money. If the ground is improved as well, there is money to be saved. The book (warning: I got an older book than the one in the link) has a huge list of points with tips. So I won’t list them all. Suffice it to say that I am amazed at the number of things we store in our refrigerator that don’t really need to be stored in the refrigerator with some preparation (cheese, eggs, lettuce, …). This means a smaller refrigerator and therefore lower running costs. I’m old now (ha!) and I remember refrigerators getting progressively bigger and bigger throughout my life. There are other tips on how to avoid mistakes when the windows are open due to the lack of air conditioning (air conditioning is evil!). One method suggests getting a gecko, but warns that it won’t work if you have a cat or dog so you don’t start your own food chain. There are also tips on how to keep the kids entertained (gainfully employed?) since there is no TV (TVs are evil!). How to wash clothes (clotheslines, rainwater), etc. This book is a treasure trove, so I’m putting it on my wish list
